Pembroke Quay

A previous name of Sarsfield Quay, renamed in 1885.

Pembroke Quay is shown, unnamed, on Rocque’s map, but appears in Harris’s History and Antiquities2 and in Scalé’s 1773 revision of Rocque.2

extract from a map of Dublin of 1773, showing Pembroke Quay on the north bank of the River Liffey.
Pembroke Quay, shown on John Rocque, An accurate survey of the city and suburbs of Dublin, with additions and improvements, engraved by Bernard Scalé (Dublin, 1756).

M’Cready suggests, plausibly, that the name was from Thomas Herbert, 8th Earl of Pembroke, who was Lord Lieutenant (1707-8).3
