Avondale Road
Running from the North Circular Road to Monck Place, Phibsboro, this street was built by the Great Western Railway Company in the late 1870s.
In December 1880 the Corporation’s Paving Committee was advised that the ‘new road… [had] been put into such a state of repair as will enable the Corporation to take it in charge’, but it wasn’t named.1 However, by September 1881 the street was known as Avondale Road.2
M’Cready says that the name comes from that of the Wicklow estate of Charles Stewart Parnell, which makes sense.3
