Munster Street
One of four streets in Phibsborough named for the four provinces of Ireland.

Described as ‘newly made’ in 1883, this street was laid out in the late 1870s, with the houses at the Phibsborough end being occupied by 1881. In June that year, a ‘comfortable front room‘ set as a sitting room and bedroom was advertised, at 1 Munster Street.

The street is first listed in Thom’s for 1882, when 12 houses are listed.1 In that year an application was made to the Corporation to that the street ‘in-charge’, but this was refused as the City Engineer reported that the only 400 feet of the street at the Phibsborough end, ‘about half the length the street is to be’, had been completed.2
The street was eventually taken in charge in September 1884,3 but in 1885 only 20 houses were occupied, while numbers 13-30 were listed as ‘building’.4 The following year all 38 houses were occupied.5
