Aideen Drive
Renamed from Neagh Road.
This street was originally developed as an extension to Neagh Road in 1949, when a number of private houses were built.1 The first houses on Neagh Road were built by the Corporation some ten years previously.
In 1954 it was proposed that a plebiscite be held to ‘decide if that portion of Neagh Road, lying between Derravar[a]gh Road and Aideen Avenue, be changed to Aideen Drive‘.2 The plebescite was held with a closing date of 30 April 1954, although the proposed new name was noted as being Céide Eadaoin (i.e. as Gaeilge). 35 ballots were issued, and 29 of the returned ballots were in favour of the change.3
On 14 June 1954 the Corporation adopted a motion to change the name to Céide Eadaoin.4
