Abbeyfield (Killester)

Running from St Brigid’s Road to Middle Third, Abbeyfield is named (presumably) from Killester Abbey, which was located nearby to the west.

It is one of three lots of houses built on the Killester House lands for ex-servicemen who served in the British Army in the First World War.

Work on the development began in early 1921 and the houses, in all three areas, were completed by the time the development was taken over by the Irish Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Land Trust in 1924.¹
